TV purchases may become more expensive for Indian customers in the new year. Industry sources indicate a likely price increase of 3 to 10 percent on LED and smart TVs starting in January. The weakening rupee and a shortage of memory chips are the primary reasons, and these are expected to impact the mid and budget segments the most.
TV Price Hike in India: Prices of LED and smart TVs in India are likely to increase from the beginning of the new year. According to industry reports, TV prices are expected to rise by 3 to 10 percent from January 2026. The main reasons behind this increase are the shortage of memory chips and the weakening of the rupee against the dollar. Customers in the mid and budget segments are likely to be particularly affected by this increase, as most TV parts in India are imported and there is a high dependence on the global supply chain.
The TV Industry Relies on Imports
Only 30 percent of the value addition in LED TVs manufactured in India is local. The remaining crucial parts, such as open cells, semiconductor chips, and motherboards, are imported from abroad. The weakening rupee and disruptions in the global supply chain directly impact the cost of TVs.
As a result, customers in the mid and budget segments may experience a direct impact from the price increases. Demand had recently increased following a reduction in GST, but this increase could affect demand.

Severe Shortage of Memory Chips
A global shortage of memory chips is increasing costs for TV companies. The growing demand for AI servers and high-bandwidth memory has reduced the supply of chips for TVs and other electronics products. This has led to a rapid increase in the prices of DRAM and flash memory.
This presents a significant challenge for companies, as a weak rupee and rising chip prices are collectively putting pressure on production costs.
Companies Issue Warnings
N.S. Satish, President of Haier Appliances India, stated that companies are finding it difficult to absorb the increased costs. According to a PTI report, a price increase of around 3 percent on LED TVs is considered certain, and several companies have already informed dealers of this.
