IndiGo, the country's largest airline, sincerely apologized to its passengers and industry stakeholders on Thursday following two days of severe flight disruptions, stating that it is working to normalize its services as soon as possible.
New Delhi: IndiGo, India's largest airline, has faced significant operational disruptions over the past two days. During this period, approximately 550 flights had to be canceled, causing severe inconvenience to thousands of passengers. Given the seriousness of the situation, the airline has publicly apologized to passengers and the aviation sector, assuring them that efforts are underway to normalize services as quickly as possible.
According to the airline, it is collaborating with the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), AAI (Airports Authority of India), BCAS (Bureau of Civil Aviation Security), and various airport operators to improve the situation.
170 to 200 Flights Canceled Daily
According to sources, while IndiGo typically cancels a very small number of flights on normal days, it had to cancel 170 to 200 flights daily over the past two days. This number is considered extremely high compared to the airline's usual daily operations. Passengers at several major airports also complained that they did not receive timely and accurate information. Some passengers had to wait for hours at the airport, while many had to suddenly change their travel plans. IndiGo stated in a statement issued on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter),
'We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to our passengers. Our teams are continuously working with MoCA, DGCA, BCAS, AAI, and all relevant agencies to normalize services. We will keep our passengers continuously informed of any changes to their flight status.'
The airline has also appealed to passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport. For this purpose, the company has shared a link to check flight status on its official website.

IGI Airport Most Affected
At Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), a large number of IndiGo flights were affected on Thursday. According to Delhi Airport administration, a total of 150 IndiGo flights were canceled, comprising 75 departures and 75 arrivals. These flights were scheduled to operate on both domestic and international routes.
In addition to Delhi, passengers at other major airports like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Chennai also faced issues with flight cancellations and delays. IndiGo is India's largest domestic airline and boasts an extensive network.
- The airline has over 400 aircraft.
- It operates approximately 2,300 flights daily.
- IndiGo connects more than 90 domestic and over 45 international cities.
Due to such a large network, the impact of these widespread cancellations has been felt not only by domestic but also by international passengers. This incident comes at a time when IndiGo had recently received a significant international honor. At the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2025, IndiGo was awarded the title of ‘Best Airline in India and South Asia’.
