Jaipur: A harrowing accident occurred on Monday morning in the Shahpura area near Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. A bus transporting laborers came into contact with a high-tension power line, causing the bus to suddenly erupt in flames. In this accident, two people died on the spot, while 12 others sustained burn injuries. Five critically injured individuals have been referred to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur. Following the incident, there is an atmosphere of chaos in the area, and the district administration has initiated relief operations.
Bus Carrying Laborers Hit by Electric Current
According to sources, the bus was transporting laborers from Uttar Pradesh towards a brick kiln located near Todi village in Shahpura. As the bus exited the highway and proceeded onto a dirt track, an overhead high-tension power line struck the bus. The b electric current caused the bus to instantly catch fire, and a plume of smoke quickly engulfed the area.
Laborers inside the bus began jumping out to save their lives. Local villagers immediately informed the police and fire brigade. By the time fire engines arrived at the scene, two people had already died, and several passengers had suffered severe burn injuries.
District Administration and Police Team Arrive at the Scene

Upon receiving information about the accident, Jaipur District Collector Jitendra Soni and a team from the Superintendent of Police reached the spot. Civil Defense and Fire Brigade personnel were deployed for relief and rescue operations. Police immediately transported the injured laborers to a nearby hospital, from where five severely burned individuals were referred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur.
After the accident, the bus has been completely extinguished, and a team from the electricity department has been called to the scene to inspect the high-tension line. Officials stated that initial investigations suggest the overhead power cable, passing very close to the bus, is considered the cause of the accident.
Alert Declared at SMS Hospital
Considering the gravity of the incident, an emergency has been declared at SMS Hospital in Jaipur. Medical teams have been put on alert to ensure immediate treatment for the injured. The hospital administration reported that all five injured laborers are in critical condition and have been admitted to the ICU.
The state government has expressed grief over the accident and announced compensation for the families of the deceased. Furthermore, the Chief Minister's Office has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Following the accident, an atmosphere of sorrow and concern prevails throughout the Shahpura region.
