New Delhi: Another controversial protest took place at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Monday. Students protested in support of imprisoned Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. During the protest, students raised objectionable slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Reports indicate that the slogans included phrases like 'Modi-Shah your graves will be dug,' 'The grave of Ambani's rule will be dug, on the land of JNU,' and 'The grave of Adani will be dug, on the land of JNU.'

The demonstration and slogans were in protest against the Supreme Court's rejection of the bail petitions of Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. This has once again brought JNU into the spotlight.

Time and Location of the Protest

The incident occurred at night outside the Sabarmati Hostel. During the protest, left-wing students also raised slogans against the Supreme Court's decision. It was stated that the purpose of the protesting students was to express support for the imprisoned Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam.

Security forces were deployed in the vicinity of Sabarmati Hostel. Students registered their protest through their slogans, creating a tense atmosphere on campus.

Ongoing Cases Against Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid

Sharjeel Imam is facing a sedition case. He is accused of talking about separating the 'chicken neck' region from India. Umar Khalid is facing a case for his alleged role in the Delhi riots.

The Supreme Court stated on Monday that the prosecution's evidence suggests that both accused were involved in conspiring, mobilizing, and giving strategic directions for the 2020 Delhi riots. The court dismissed their bail petitions in the conspiracy cases.

Previous Controversial Sloganeering at JNU

JNU has long been a center of controversy. The university has witnessed several instances of objectionable sloganeering. In past incidents as well, controversial slogans were used in support of student leaders and imprisoned accused.

This time, the sloganeering outside Sabarmati Hostel has once again brought JNU into the spotlight. Experts say that such incidents are happening continuously due to political and social discontent within the university.

Reactions from BJP Leaders

BJP leaders have bly reacted to the sloganeering at JNU. Minister Kapil Mishra said on 'X' (formerly Twitter), 'As the hoods of snakes are crushed, the snake charmers are writhing. Those raising ugly slogans in support of Naxalites, terrorists, and rioters at JNU are desperate because Naxalites are being eliminated, terrorists are being dealt with, and the courts have identified the rioters.'

Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, 'This is completely wrong. They will commit sedition first and then raise such slogans in their support. These people are doing this with the support of Congress and AAP. Look at Sanjay Singh's statement, on one hand they say to respect the Supreme Court's decision, on the other hand these wrong slogans are being raised.'

Sirsa also said that those convicted in sedition cases should be punished and those raising such slogans should also be held accountable under the law.

Student Politics Behind the Protest

Experts say that student politics and political discontent within the university play a role behind such incidents at JNU. Student leaders and groups believe that protesting in support of imprisoned leaders is their right.

However, it is also true that such sloganeering is a serious matter from the point of view of public order and law. Such demonstrations can create tension within the university and society.
