(Gorakhpur) — A Junior Engineer (JE) has been suspended following an investigation into irregularities in the meter installation process within the Uttar Pradesh electricity department. This action is linked to revenue losses incurred by the department. It has been reported that the inspection found that documentation and rules were not properly followed during meter installations, resulting in financial loss for the department. Officer-level review actions have been initiated to establish accountability in such matters.
According to official sources, the preliminary investigation into the matter revealed interference, negligence in inspection, and violations of rules related to meter installation. This suggests a weakness in departmental control. The departmental lapse has also raised questions about the extent of negligence within the electricity and metering system, and the impact such incidents have on general consumers, departmental revenue, and credibility.
The investigation team is now conducting a detailed audit — to determine how many meters were non-compliant with regulations, in which areas costs increased or decreased, and what action will be taken if anyone used the system for personal gain.
The department has stated that upon the conclusion of the investigation, action will be taken against the culprits under the Prevention of Corruption Act or service rules.
