Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Affirms Full Term, Shivakumar Shows Restraint Amidst Leadership Speculation

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has stated that he will remain Chief Minister for the full five-year term. Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar also showed restraint, saying he would stand by the high command's decision.

Karnataka: The political landscape in Karnataka is once again showing signs of activity. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has attempted to quell the speculation that Congress leadership might soon replace him as the state's Chief Minister. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Siddaramaiah clearly stated, "Yes, I will remain Chief Minister for five years. Do you have any doubts?"

Siddaramaiah's Counter to BJP's Claims

Siddaramaiah also responded sharply to the Bharatiya Janata Party's accusations. He said, "The BJP can claim anything; are they our high command? The opposition has no right to comment on the internal affairs of the Congress party. These are matters for our organization, and the party leadership will decide."

Shivakumar's Response: I will do what I have to do

When Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar was asked about the entire controversy and leadership change, he reacted with great restraint. He said, "What options do I have? I have to stand with them (Siddaramaiah); I have to support them. Whatever the high command says, I will do."

Discussion Began After Demand from MLAs

Recently, some Congress MLAs openly demanded that the Chief Minister be replaced midway through the government's term and that D.K. Shivakumar be given the responsibility. After this, speculation intensified that the Congress high command was considering this. However, party general secretary Randeep Surjewala dismissed these speculations, saying that there was no plan for any leadership change in Karnataka.

Shivakumar Expressed His Priority

D.K. Shivakumar has previously made it clear that his priority is currently to strengthen the party, not to seek the Chief Minister's chair. He said, "I do not have any desire to become the Chief Minister. My entire effort is that the Congress party should reach a b position in the 2028 assembly elections. This is my priority."

He also added that discipline is the top priority of the Congress and that he would continue to work according to the party's guidelines. When asked about the support of the MLAs, he clarified, "I do not need anyone's support. I am not expecting the post of Chief Minister at the moment."
