Tribal organizations announced an economic blockade in Kolhan on October 25 in support of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Their struggle is linked to the protection of forests and the rights of local tribals.
Ranchi: The Saranda Sanctuary dispute in Jharkhand's Kolhan region has now taken a more serious turn. Tribal organizations have announced an economic blockade on October 25. They state that this step is necessary for the protection of local people's rights, livelihoods, and way of life.
On October 15, tribal leaders submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) addressed to the state Governor, appealing to the Governor to reconsider the matter. Tribal organizations emphasize that the case being fought by Chief Minister Hemant Soren in the Supreme Court is not just a legal battle, but a fight connected to local life.
'Do not harass those who inhabit the forest'
Tribal leaders from the Saranda forest area stated that those who reside in the forest should not be harassed in the name of rules and laws. They asserted that the traditional lifestyle and livelihoods of the local people should remain secure.
The organizations also clarified that their movement would not involve any violence or harm to anyone. Chief Minister Hemant Soren is also concerned about the protection of the forest and its original inhabitants and stands in their support in this matter.
Hemant Soren's Message
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren stated that mineral resources can be overlooked for some time, but there will be no compromise on the rights of tribal people. He also said that the government is taking the decision to take this issue to court to ensure the rights of the region's residents are protected.
Soren clarified that his efforts are not only legally sound but also aimed at preserving the forest and the lives of its people. He stated that the government will always stand for the interests of its people and will not tolerate any injustice.
Opposition to Wildlife Sanctuary
Tribals also held a public outrage rally on October 14. They stated that the proposal to establish the Saranda Wildlife Sanctuary could endanger their livelihoods and traditional way of life.
The organizations demand that this proposal be withdrawn immediately. They insist that the Saranda forest will not be allowed to become a Wildlife Sanctuary at any cost.
