BJP Accuses TMC of Suppressing Facts in New Town Law College Gang Rape Case

The alleged gang rape of a student at New Town Law College in Kolkata has ignited a firestorm in West Bengal politics. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh has directly attacked the Mamata Banerjee government over the incident. He alleged that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is intentionally trying to suppress crucial facts related to this heinous crime. Ghosh stated that TMC-supporting student leaders, who have been entrenched in the college campus for years, are behind the incident.

Questioning the situation, Ghosh asked, "Those who have been student leaders for years are now stuck in the college as fourth-grade employees. Why is there a union room in the college without student union elections? Isn't it a planned conspiracy that the girl was called to the college on a holiday, locked in a room, and given an inhaler?" He called the incident a completely premeditated and inhumane act.

TMC is Protecting the Accused

The BJP leader also expressed his apprehension that this case might end up like the RG Kar Hospital case, where the government allegedly attempted to protect the main accused. Ghosh clearly stated, "This is a matter of shame for the Bengal government and its health department. If the main accused is protected this time as well, it will be a murder of justice." He warned that the BJP would not back down on this issue and would continue to fight until justice is served to the victim.

What Action Has the Police Taken So Far?

In this case, the police took swift action and arrested a total of three people, including the main accused, Manojit Mishra. A guard has also been taken into custody for negligence in the security of the college premises. All the accused have been presented in court and sent to police remand until June 8th.

Furthermore, the victim's statement has been recorded, and the forensic team has collected evidence from the scene. Given the gravity of the case, the State Human Rights Commission is also keeping a close watch on it, along with the police.

The Political Storm Isn't Over

This case is no longer limited to just a crime; it has become the center of politics in the state. The opposition's accusations against the Mamata government are intensifying, and debates on this issue have erupted from social media to Parliament. It remains to be seen how the government will protect its image on the law and order front and whether justice will be served to the victim in a timely manner.
