In Kushinagar, a car collided with a tractor-trolley, resulting in the deaths of four people and serious injuries to two others. All were returning from a pilgrimage. The accident occurred due to the driver falling asleep at the wheel.
UP Accident: A tragic accident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Patherwa police station area of Kushinagar district when a speeding car collided with a tractor-trolley loaded with soil. The impact was so severe that the car was mangled, and four out of the six people inside were killed. The accident happened on the four-lane road near Baghi Kuti, adjacent to Tamkuhi Raj.
How did the accident happen?
According to eyewitnesses, the tractor-trolley, laden with soil, was reversing on the four-lane road. The car, approaching from behind, then collided with it. The car was speeding, and the driver suddenly saw the trolley, leaving him no time to avoid the collision. After the impact, the sound of the collision alerted people nearby, who rushed to the scene and informed the police.
Two died on the spot, two succumbed in hospital
Following the accident, two passengers died at the scene, while the other four were immediately taken to Tamkuhi Raj CHC. Two more people died during treatment. There were a total of six people in the car, of whom only two are seriously injured and undergoing treatment.
Identification of the deceased and their families
The deceased have been identified as Kailash Mani Tripathi (50), Manoj Singh (40), Ramkaran Gupta (50), and Sujit Jaiswal (55). All were residents of Kotwali town in Siddharthnagar district and were returning after visiting Baba Dham. When the news reached their homes, a wave of grief swept over the families.
Airbags saved the lives of the two in the front
The lives of the two passengers sitting in the front of the car were saved by the deployment of airbags. The driver, Sushant Sharma (35), and his relative, Rajesh Sharma (50), sustained serious injuries but are alive. Both have been admitted to the hospital. According to the police, both are residents of Pt. Deendayal Nagar, Siddharthnagar, and are uncle and nephew.
Drowsiness caused the accident
CO Tamkuhi Raj, Rakesh Pratap Singh, said that the initial investigation revealed that the main cause of the accident could have been drowsiness. The driver stated that they had left Jharkhand at 10 pm on Saturday and, after a long journey, had fallen asleep, which led to the loss of control of the vehicle.
Police and locals joined the relief efforts
Immediately after the incident, the police from Patherwa and Tamkuhi Raj police stations reached the spot. The CO also reached the scene and made efforts to restore traffic. Local people also helped the police in cutting the damaged car to rescue the injured.
The police have informed the families of the deceased. Post-mortem and other legal procedures are being carried out. The role of the tractor driver is also being investigated to determine whether backing the trolley on the four-lane road was a violation of the rules.
