New Delhi: Amid the uproar in Lok Sabha on Monday, Speaker Om Birla issued a stern warning to the opposition MPs. He clearly stated that the public has not sent them to destroy government property, and if they behave in such a manner, he will have to take decisive actions.
Uproar escalated in Parliament, Opposition's protest continues
The proceedings of the Lok Sabha were disrupted on Monday when opposition MPs staged a b protest on SIR (Special Intensive Revision) and other issues. The MPs raised slogans and tried to corner the government on their demands inside the House.
However, seeing the deteriorating atmosphere during this time, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla took a stern stance and advised the House to maintain discipline. He warned the MPs that they have the right to register their protest, but this right does not allow them to damage government property.
Om Birla issued a stern warning to the opposition MPs
Speaker Om Birla said that if the MPs ask questions with the same energy with which they are raising slogans, the people of the country will benefit in a real sense. He clearly stated that no MP can damage government property.
Birla further said that if such an attempt is made, he will have to take strict and decisive steps. He said that the people of the country are watching everything, and they will not tolerate damage to property in the supreme institution of democracy.
'Decisive actions will have to be taken'
The Lok Sabha Speaker bluntly said that if the MPs do not mend their ways, he will have to take strict decisions. He also reminded them that in many state assemblies, action has been taken against the concerned members after such incidents. Birla warned the opposition MPs again and said that they should follow discipline and not try to damage government property.
Opposition's allegation and protest
The MPs of the opposition alliance INDIA bloc protested in the Parliament premises on the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR). They say that this process is an attempt to influence the voter list in the election-bound state of Bihar. The opposition called it an anti-people step and targeted the government. Inside the Parliament as well, the opposition created an uproar over the same issue, due to which the proceedings were disrupted and had to be adjourned till noon.
