Madhya Pradesh Issues Orange Alert for Heavy Rainfall in 11 Districts

The weather department has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in 11 Madhya Pradesh districts on August 10, including Bhopal, Raisen, Sehore, Indore, Ujjain and Ratlam, with thunderstorms and winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour also expected.

After monsoon activity intensified in Madhya Pradesh, the weather department has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in 11 districts on August 10. Bhopal, Raisen, Sehore, Indore, Ujjain and Ratlam are among the areas where heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour is likely.

Rainfall activity continues across several parts of Madhya Pradesh due to an active monsoon system. According to the weather department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in 11 districts on August 10. The districts include Bhopal, Raisen, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Agar, Sehore, Dewas, Indore, Ujjain, Mandsaur and Ratlam.

Thunderstorms and b winds may also accompany the rainfall in these districts. An Orange-level warning indicates that people and the administration in the affected areas need to remain prepared for the potential impact of the weather.

Rainfall is also expected to continue in the state capital Bhopal on Monday. Persistent rain may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas of the city and affect traffic. People have been advised to travel only when necessary, depending on weather conditions.

The monsoon also remains active in several other parts of the country. According to the IMD, rainfall, thunderstorms and b winds may occur across several regions, including central India, between August 9 and 15.

In view of continuous rainfall, the Dindori district administration has declared a one-day holiday for all schools in the district on August 10 for the safety of students and children. Anganwadi centres have also been closed for children.

In areas receiving heavy rainfall, the administration may take additional decisions regarding schools and other institutions based on local conditions.

Heavy rainfall in the Shyampur tehsil area of Sehore district has reportedly led to waterlogging at several locations. Following continuous rain, water levels in local rivers and streams have increased, affecting movement on some rural roads.

Water has entered shops and houses in several low-lying areas, causing difficulties for residents. If water levels rise, movement around rivers, streams, bridges and culverts may become risky.

Apart from the districts under the heavy rainfall warning, light to moderate rain is expected in several other parts of the state. A Yellow Alert has been reported for areas including Shivpuri, Niwari, Guna, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Neemuch, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Dhar, Narmadapuram, Narsinghpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Burhanpur, Harda, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni and Sagar.

According to the weather department, heavy rainfall may cause waterlogging in low-lying areas, sudden rises in water levels in rivers and streams, and damage to weak structures. There is also a risk of lightning during thunderstorms.

People have been advised to stay away from rivers, streams and waterlogged areas, avoid remaining in open spaces during lightning, and refrain from unnecessary travel during bad weather. Drivers have been advised to exercise particular caution on roads with reduced visibility and slippery conditions.
