West Bengal: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched a scathing attack on the BJP's double-engine government at the Center and in the state regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Mamata Banerjee's Direct Attack in Jhargram
Addressing a public meeting in Jhargram on Thursday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee bly targeted the BJP government at the Center and the opposition in the state. She said, "I am wondering, are we really free today? I hope our citizenship will not be taken away. Please do not deprive us of it."
'They Want to Deport Us Calling Us Rohingyas'
The Chief Minister made a very serious allegation, saying, "The double-engine government is trying to snatch our citizenship, detain us by calling us Rohingyas, and send us back to Bangladesh."
According to her, this is not just a political conspiracy but an attack on Bengal's culture, language, and identity. Mamata said that the BJP has no concern for public welfare. Their priority is only to go to court and spread instability.
Accusation of Denying Bengali Language
In her speech, Mamata Banerjee also targeted the BJP regarding the respect for the Bengali language. She said, "I have a ten rupee note from 1912, which has writing in Bengali. Yet the BJP says that Bengali is not a language."
Sharp Reaction from BJP
The BJP has bly retaliated to these allegations by Mamata Banerjee. Party MP and Bengal state president Samik Bhattacharya said, "If Mamata Banerjee thinks that she will come to power again with the help of illegal votes, then it is her misunderstanding."
He taunted the Chief Minister, saying that her objections are only because she is opposing the removal of illegal voters. He said, "Mamata Banerjee is demanding why the names of dead people should be removed from the voter list. Isn't this making a mockery of democracy?"
Attack on Constitutional Institutions?
Samik Bhattacharya described Mamata Banerjee's objections regarding the SIR process as an attack on constitutional institutions. He said, "If Mamata Banerjee has an objection, then she should go to the Supreme Court. It is not right to defame constitutional processes from a public platform."
The BJP leader also said that the people of India will no longer tolerate this kind of politics. He claims that this time the people of Bengal are ready for change.
Allegation of Harassment of Bengalis
A day before the public meeting in Jhargram, Mamata Banerjee led a protest march in which she accused BJP-ruled states of harassing Bengali-speaking people. She said that today, Bengali speakers are being viewed with suspicion in many parts of the country.
