Meta Cracks Down on Fake Accounts and AI-Generated Content to Promote Authentic Content

Meta removes 10 million fake Facebook accounts, cracks down on AI-generated fake content, promotes real creators, and ensures users see authentic content.

Meta: Amidst the rapid proliferation of fake content and AI-generated material in the social media world, Facebook (Meta) has taken a significant step by announcing the removal of approximately 10 million fake accounts from its platform. This move is not limited to a single country or region, but is a global effort aimed at restoring Facebook as a reliable and useful social media platform.

The Flood of AI Videos and Meta's Strict Action

In recent months, Facebook has been inundated with fake videos and AI-generated content. Numerous accounts emerged that were imitating famous creators and posting fake videos created with the help of AI tools. This was harming genuine creators and also misinforming users. Meta has termed these activities as 'spammy behavior' and 'inauthentic activity' and stated that over 10 million such accounts were permanently deleted in the first six months of 2025.

Close Scrutiny of Imitators

Meta clarified in its blog post that the primary purpose of these fake accounts was to circumvent Facebook's algorithm to gain more views, likes, and followers. These accounts were not only posting fake content in videos but also spreading spam like bots in the comment sections. Furthermore, Meta has warned 500,000 more accounts for 'inauthentic behavior'. They were accused of spam comments, automated like-shares, and repeatedly posting old content.

Launch of a New AI Detection Tool

Along with this entire operation, Meta has also launched a new technology that can identify any duplicate or stolen content. If an account posts someone else's video, photo, or post without proper credit, its reach will be limited. This AI-powered tool is particularly being used against AI content farms that are uploading content from the internet — solely for the lure of views and revenue.

Real Creators Will Receive More Promotion

Meta says that it will now prioritize creators who produce original and authentic content. Users who create their own content — such as videos, images, or text — will receive better promotion on Facebook. This will not only improve the quality of the platform but also allow users to access accurate and reliable information.

Users' Feeds Will Now Be More Real

The impact of Meta's big decision will also be visible on users' news feeds. Users will now see more 'real and useful' content, rather than fake posts generated by bots or AI. This will enhance Facebook's credibility and improve the user experience.

The Growing Threat of AI Content

Fake videos and posts created by AI have become a major challenge in today's digital world. Sometimes, this content looks so real that the average user cannot tell the difference. This is why large platforms like Facebook are now having to take strict measures. According to experts, if this trend continues unchecked, the true identity of social media could be lost. Therefore, this step by Meta is the need of the hour.

Facebook's Message: Innovate, Don't Imitate

Meta's clear message is — 'Only those who create their own and authentic content will survive on Facebook.' Now, not only will the imitating accounts be deleted, but the fake content uploaded by them will also be removed or its reach reduced.
