Mirzapur, December 12, 2025 — A stir has been caused in Mirzapur after a household received an electricity bill exceeding ₹2,20,000 for two months. Typically, electricity bills for local homes fall between ₹15,000–₹16,000 for a two-month period, but the family and neighbors are concerned about the unexpectedly high charge levied on this consumer without any apparent reason.
The bill was sent to a resident of Indira Nagar village from the Rajgarh sub-station, with a payment due date of December 22nd. The department has clarified in the bill that a surcharge will be added if payment is not made by the specified date.
The electricity consumer has questioned the department’s procedures, stating that there is no information regarding any additional appliances or consumption in the house that could justify such a large bill.
Electricity department officials have taken cognizance of the matter and assured that they will investigate and rectify the bill if an error is found.
