Maharashtra: RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, at an event in Nagpur, stated that Sanskrit is not merely a language, but the soul of Indian culture and knowledge. He emphasized the need to take it to every household and make it a part of daily communication.
Sanskrit is the Mother of Indian Languages: Mohan Bhagwat
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat, on August 1, 2025, at the inauguration of a new building of Kavi Kulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University in Nagpur, said that it is necessary to take Sanskrit to every household. He also clarified that this language is the mother of all Indian languages and its promotion will help in protecting our cultural heritage.
Sanskrit is not just a Language of Knowledge, but also of Emotions
Bhagwat said that Sanskrit is not just an academic or religious language, but it is the language of our emotions, thoughts, and culture. He said, "Knowing Sanskrit is equivalent to understanding India. This language is an expression of our 'Swatva,' that is, intimate identity and self-reliance."
Need to Become a Language of Communication
The RSS chief also added that it is necessary not only to understand Sanskrit, but also to develop the habit of speaking it. He mentioned that he himself has learned this language, but is unable to speak it fluently. He said, "We have to make it a language of daily communication." For this, he emphasized the need for public participation and popular support.
The University Needs Public Patronage
During the inauguration at Kalidas Sanskrit University, Bhagwat also said that any institution should be strengthened not only by government aid, but also by public patronage. He called for the university to become an institution from where Sanskrit emerges not only as a curriculum, but as a lifestyle.
Cultural Self-Awareness is the Key to Self-Reliant India
Mohan Bhagwat clarified in his speech that self-reliance does not only mean economic self-sufficiency, but intellectual and cultural self-confidence are equally important. He said, "Swatva is not a physical object, but an ideological identity, which is expressed through languages like Sanskrit."
Need to Return to Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam
Bhagwat recalled the G20 Summit 2023 and said that India presented the idea of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' on that platform, while Western countries talk about 'global market'. He said that Western ideology has now failed and India needs to return to its traditional values.
Fadnavis also Expressed Support
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was present at the event, described the rich heritage of Sanskrit as the basis of India's intellectual power. He said that the state government will provide all possible cooperation for Sanskrit education, technology, and promotion.
