MP Priya Saroj Raises Alarm on Cough Syrup Smuggling in Parliament, Demands Strict Action

Varanasi MP Priya Saroj raised concerns over rampant cough syrup smuggling and illegal trade in Parliament, demanding strict action against pharmaceutical companies and strengthening drug control.

Varanasi MP Priy Saroj prominently raised the issue of cough syrup smuggling and the widespread illegal trade associated with it during the winter session of Parliament. She stated that the illegal use of codeine-laced cough syrup is continuously increasing, leading to health risks and promoting criminal activities.

The MP demanded that the government take strict action against pharmaceutical companies, dealers, and individuals involved in the drug smuggling supply chain. She also added that complaints regarding the supply of fake or suspicious quality medicines are emerging in many cases, necessitating a thorough investigation.

Priya Saroj appealed for strengthening the drug control system, increasing inspections, and taking stringent measures to eradicate the illegal cough syrup trade. In response, the government assured that investigative agencies are active and action would be taken against the culprits.

Following the issue being raised by the MP, there is a likelihood of increased strict vigilance on drug smuggling in Varanasi and other districts.
