The Mumbai Court has granted significant relief to Major Arun Sharma and his parents, who contributed to 'Operation Sindoor', by acquitting them in a 10-year-old dowry harassment case. The court also ordered the return of their bail documents.
Mumbai News: The Esplanade Court in Mumbai has acquitted Major Arun Sharma and his parents, who were involved in 'Operation Sindoor', in a 10-year-old dowry harassment case. The charges filed against Major Sharma, who is posted in Rajasthan, and his parents by his wife under sections 498A and 34 of the Indian Penal Code were deemed false by the court and subsequently dismissed.
False Case Robbed Major Sharma of 10 Years
Advocate Pandey informed the court that this case had cost Major Arun Sharma and his parents 10 years of their lives. During this period, Major Sharma's parents, who are senior citizens, suffered from several serious illnesses. Major Sharma, a serving officer in the Army, was also part of 'Operation Sindoor' while serving the nation.
Advocate Pandey stated that due to the false accusations, Major Sharma had to appear in court repeatedly, causing damage to his personal dignity. The complainant and her father neither appeared before the Mumbai court nor the Delhi court, where their divorce case was ongoing. Subsequently, the Delhi court granted the divorce.
Truth Revealed in Medical Reports, Complainant Inflicted Injuries
Major Sharma's lawyer stated that medical evidence in this case clearly indicated that the complainant herself had caused physical harm to Major Sharma. Despite this, the complainant consistently avoided appearing in court. Advocate Pandey further informed that the complainant had also sought approximately Rs 40 lakh as maintenance from the Army Court, without any solid basis for such a claim.
In the absence of any concrete evidence, the court found that conviction based solely on allegations was not possible.
Appeared in Court 25 Times, But Hearings Kept Getting Adjourned
Advocate Pandey mentioned that in this case, he had filed applications to have the case dismissed over 25 times. Despite this, the court kept the case open for a prolonged period. The prosecution made several attempts to summon the complainant, but she did not appear.
The lawyer described this as a clear example of the misuse of law and judicial process. He added that there is often no specific law to protect men in such false cases.
Mumbai Court Grants Acquittal Due to Lack of Evidence
On September 8, 2025, Prashant Suresh Ghodke, Judicial Magistrate First Class (Mumbai), acquitted Major Arun Sharma and his parents, giving them the benefit of the doubt. The court also issued an order for the return of their bail documents.
Advocate Pandey remarked that this verdict is a positive step towards justice, especially for soldiers who face false cases while serving the country.
