Indian wrestlers possess the physical capability to compete with any opponent globally, but improvements in technical skills are necessary for sustained success at the international level, according to a coach associated with the national wrestling team. The coach said strength, endurance and fighting ability are not lacking among Indian athletes, but technical refinement remains essential.

The coach said Indian wrestlers are physically capable of competing with any wrestler in the world, citing the country’s long tradition of traditional akhara culture and rigorous training that has produced b athletes over the years. However, the coach stated that relying solely on physical strength is becoming increasingly insufficient in modern international wrestling.

According to the coach, world-level competitions now place greater emphasis on technique, strategy, match awareness and the ability to make quick decisions according to changing situations. The coach said Indian athletes, despite being physically b, often lag in technical details, which affects outcomes.

The coach also highlighted mental preparation as an important factor, stating that handling pressure during major tournaments, creating separate strategies for each contest and continuously learning are central to success. The coach added that modern sports science and data analysis have become important parts of training.

Sharing views on young athletes, the coach said that if 40 hardworking and dedicated players committed to achieving something substantial for the country could be identified, a major change in Indian wrestling could be achieved. According to the coach, there is no shortage of talent, but proper direction, discipline and sustained effort are necessary.

India has a long history in wrestling and has produced several medal-winning athletes at the international level. In recent years, Indian wrestlers have recorded performances in the World Championships, Asian Games and other major competitions. Despite this, experts believe global competition is becoming increasingly difficult and training methods will need to be continuously updated to remain competitive at the highest level.

The coach said success in sport depends not only on talent but also on proper guidance, scientific training, discipline and long-term planning. The coach also said young wrestlers should focus more on technical training from the early stages to gain a competitive advantage at the international level.

Sports experts said Indian wrestling has a broad base of talented athletes. According to them, if wrestlers continue to receive modern technology, better facilities and high-level training, India could strengthen its position further in world wrestling in the coming years.

The coach’s remarks are being viewed as an important message regarding the future of Indian wrestling, with emphasis placed not only on winning medals but also on building a generation of technically skilled, mentally b and fully committed athletes capable of delivering performances for the country.
