Navneet Chaturvedi Arrested in Punjab Over Forged MLA Signatures in Rajya Sabha Elections

Amidst the Rajya Sabha elections, Navneet Chaturvedi was arrested in Punjab on charges of getting fake signatures from MLAs. He was taken into custody on the order of the Rupnagar court following a dispute between Chandigarh and Punjab police after his nomination was rejected.

Chandigarh: During the by-election for Punjab's Rajya Sabha seat, serious allegations have been leveled against Jaipur resident Navneet Chaturvedi. Police and administrative investigations revealed that Navneet forged the signatures of 10 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs to propose his nomination. Subsequently, his nomination was rejected during scrutiny. Navneet Chaturvedi, who was under the protection of Chandigarh Police, had been in security since Tuesday night, as he had expressed fear for his life. Despite this, Punjab Police initiated efforts to arrest him.

Clash between Chandigarh/Punjab Police during arrest

Navneet was under the protection of Chandigarh Police on Tuesday night. As he was returning from the Punjab Assembly, Punjab Police attempted to arrest him near Sukhna Lake. During this, a confrontation and scuffle occurred between the two police departments.

Chandigarh Police refused to hand over Navneet to Punjab Police and took him to Sector 3 Police Station. Punjab Police officials camped outside the station throughout Tuesday night.

Rupnagar Court Issued Order

On Wednesday, the Punjab government complained to the Rupnagar court that Navneet was not being arrested. Based on an arrest warrant, the court ordered that Navneet Chaturvedi be arrested and produced before it. Following this, a team from Punjab Police arrived at Sector 3 Police Station in the evening with the court's order and arrested Navneet.

At least 10 FIRs have been registered against Navneet Chaturvedi in Punjab. He is accused of using forged documents and signatures for his nomination. Police are now interrogating all parties and investigating the case of fraud in the Rajya Sabha elections.
