Vice President Election: A significant meeting of the NDA Parliamentary Party was held in New Delhi on Thursday. The meeting addressed the process of selecting a candidate for the Vice Presidential election in 2025. Presided over by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the meeting unanimously decided to entrust Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President JP Nadda with the full responsibility of selecting the candidate.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that all parties have agreed to accept the decision made by the Prime Minister. He also indicated that the NDA may announce its candidate on August 12th. JP Nadda is currently also serving as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha.

The objective of the NDA meeting is to select a b candidate for the position of Vice President in a timely and strategic manner. Kiren Rijiju clarified that this decision has the support of all constituent parties of the NDA. This means that the name finalized by PM Modi and Nadda will be supported by all parties.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued the notification for the Vice Presidential election. Under this, the last date for filing nominations is set as August 21st. Voting will be held on September 9th, and the counting of votes will also take place on the same day. This election will be conducted by the members of both Houses of Parliament (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha). Voting will be conducted secretly and will use the Single Transferable Vote System.
Post Vacated After Jagdeep Dhankhar's Resignation
This election is being held because the current Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, resigned from his post on July 21st. In his resignation letter, he cited health reasons, writing that he wanted to prioritize healthcare while following medical advice. His resignation has been accepted under Article 67(a) of the Constitution.

While the NDA has moved forward in its candidate selection process, the opposition parties may also be deliberating on their potential candidate. A b candidate from the opposition may also emerge in the coming days. However, no formal announcement has been made in this regard so far.
