Kathmandu. After the recent Gen-Z movement in Nepal, the situation now appears to be slowly returning to normal. Following this movement, a political crisis deepened, and the then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had to resign from his post. Now, a new political stir has begun in Nepal, and the big news for the country's citizens is that the Nepal Election Commission has announced the date for the House of Representatives elections. Voting will take place on March 5, 2026. After the elections, a government chosen by the people will once again take charge of the country's affairs.

Role of the Interim Government

An interim government was formed in Nepal following the Gen-Z movement. Sushila Karki has taken command of this government. The 73-year-old Sushila Karki became the interim Prime Minister on September 12. During her tenure, she made it clear that her government would conduct general elections on time. The main objective of the interim government is to ensure peaceful elections and bring stability to the country.

Election Commission's Announcement

The Nepal Election Commission released a statement revealing the schedule of the election process. The commission stated that all procedures, including registration, voting, and counting of votes, would proceed according to the predetermined timeline. Political parties must register for the elections from November 16 to 26. If any new political party wishes to participate in the elections, it will be mandatory to register by November 15.

The Election Commission also clarified that all parties must submit their candidate lists by January 2 and 3, 2026. The election campaign will run from February 15 to March 2. During this period, political parties will inform the public about their manifestos and development plans.

Voting Process

Voting in Nepal will take place on March 5, 2026, from 7 AM to 5 PM. All ballot boxes will be collected on the same day, and vote counting will also be completed on that day. The Election Commission has appealed to the public to cast their votes peacefully and fulfill their responsibility towards democracy.

KP Sharma Oli's Resignation

During the Gen-Z movement, the political crisis in the country deepened. The movement highlighted the discontent of the youth, who staged widespread protests against former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. As a result, Oli had to resign, and power transitioned to the interim government. Only after Oli's resignation did Sushila Karki become the interim Prime Minister, and she ensured that general elections would be held on time.

Key Aspects of the Election

The Nepal Election Commission also stated that all political parties would be allowed to conduct election campaigns for a period of 15 days. During the election campaign, all parties will prepare the public for voting through their plans and electoral promises. This election is considered extremely important for strengthening Nepal's democracy and mandate.
