New Delhi: Political uproar has erupted following an attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district. According to information, Murmu, the MP from Malda Uttar, was seriously injured in this attack. The attack occurred when both public representatives had arrived to inspect areas affected by floods and landslides.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has bly reacted to this incident. Following PM Modi's reaction, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also retaliated, further escalating political tension.
PM Modi's Statement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the incident by posting on the social media platform 'X'. He wrote:
'The way our party colleagues, including a sitting MP and an MLA, who were serving the flood and landslide-affected people in West Bengal, were attacked is highly condemnable. This demonstrates the insensitivity of the Trinamool Congress and the deplorable state of law and order in the state.'
The PM further stated that such violence would not have occurred if the state government and the TMC had intensified their efforts to help the people. He called upon BJP workers to continue working among the public and cooperate in relief efforts.
Mamata Banerjee's Retaliation
CM Mamata Banerjee reacted to the PM's statement, calling it unfortunate and politically motivated. She stated that the Prime Minister made political accusations without proper investigation. Mamata said, "The people of North Bengal are struggling with floods and landslides. The entire local administration and police are busy with relief operations. BJP leaders decided to visit the affected areas with a convoy of central forces without prior notice. In such a situation, it is not fair to blame the state administration and the TMC."
The CM also stated that adherence to legal and administrative procedures is essential in any democratic country. Guilt cannot be proven merely by tweeting from a political platform.
Reaction from BJP IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya
BJP IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya also reacted to the incident. He claimed that TMC members were behind the attack and questioned the law and order situation in the state. "Khagen Murmu, a tribal leader from North Malda and a two-time MP, was attacked when he was on his way to carry out relief work in Jalpaiguri's Dooars region after floods and rain."
Amit Malviya targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating that while BJP leaders and workers were helping people, the Chief Minister herself was dancing at the Kolkata Carnival. He added that leaders helping the public are being targeted due to the activities of the ruling TMC party in Bengal.
