Rahul Gandhi alleged that he was not allowed to speak in Parliament. The opposition demanded discussions on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, disrupting the proceedings of the House and leading to two adjournments.
Monsoon Session: The Monsoon session of Parliament has once again been disrupted due to uproar. On Monday, the opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha demanded discussions on crucial issues such as the Pahalgam terrorist attack, Operation Sindoor, and the special intensive revision of the voter list in Bihar. Members of the opposition disrupted the proceedings of the House by shouting slogans against the government. Due to this, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha had to be adjourned twice.
Displeasure of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi
After the uproar, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi expressed deep displeasure while speaking to the media in the Parliament complex. He said that he was not allowed to speak in the House, while the leaders of the ruling party are given every opportunity.
Rahul Gandhi said, "The question is, the Defence Minister is allowed to speak in the House, their people are allowed to speak, but if someone from the opposition wants to say something, they are not allowed. I am the Leader of the Opposition. It is my right. I am never allowed to speak."
"We wanted to say two words..."
Rahul Gandhi further said, "We wanted to say two words, but the opposition was not allowed to do so. This is a new approach. The rule says that if the people of the government say something, then the opposition should also get the space to respond." He said that the basic spirit of democracy is that every side should be heard. "I am not asking for any privilege, only the right that the rules and democracy give me."
Priyanka Gandhi's support
Supporting Rahul Gandhi's statement, Priyanka Gandhi also told the media that, "As a Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi has every right to express his views in the House. He should have been given a chance to speak."
Proceedings adjourned repeatedly due to uproar
As soon as the proceedings of the House began, the opposition MPs came to the well and started shouting slogans loudly. Their main focus was on the demand for discussion on the Pahalgam terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor. Speaker Om Birla first adjourned the proceedings till 12 noon. But when the proceedings resumed, the situation did not improve. Eventually, the House had to be adjourned again till 2 pm.
Clarification and reaction from the government
On behalf of the government, MP Jagdambika Pal rejected the allegations of the opposition, saying that the government is ready for discussion on every issue. He appealed to the opposition to maintain the dignity of the House.
He said, "The people of the country are watching. The country has seen the valour of the army. The government wants discussion, the opposition does not want it. Rahul Gandhi does not want to speak, he wants to create a ruckus. He sent messages to all his MPs on mobile to create disruption."
Defense Minister's reaction
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, while speaking in the House, also clarified that the government is ready to discuss any issue openly. He said that "Democracy runs through dialogue, not obstruction. We want to listen to the opposition, but the opposition also has to follow peace and order."
Crisis of democratic dialogue in Parliament
This incident has once again raised the question of whether the voice of the opposition is being suppressed in today's Parliament. The opposition alleges that they are not allowed to speak on serious issues, while the ruling party has complete freedom. On the other hand, the government argues that the opposition only wants to create a ruckus, not debate.
