Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his two-day visit to Bhutan and departed for India. He was bid farewell at Thimphu Airport by Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.
PM Modi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on a visit to Bhutan, and Wednesday marked the second day of his tour. On this day, PM Modi participated in a bilateral meeting with Bhutan's Fourth Druk Gyalpo, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, where discussions focused on strengthening partnership and cooperation between the two nations. Additionally, the Prime Minister, along with Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, inaugurated the 'Kalachakra Abhishek' program in Thimphu.
Bilateral Meeting and Strategic Partnership
On the second day of his visit, Prime Minister Modi participated in a bilateral meeting with Bhutan's Fourth Druk Gyalpo, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck. During the meeting, both leaders discussed strengthening cooperation in the fields of energy, trade, technology, connectivity, and sustainable development. On this occasion, PM Modi shared that the progress of the Gelephu Mindfulness City project is commendable, aligning with India's Act East policy.
Bhutan's King also expressed condolences for those who lost their lives in the Delhi blast and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. The Government of India appreciated Bhutan's sympathy and solidarity.
Inauguration of Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project

PM Modi and the King of Bhutan inaugurated the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project on Tuesday. The Bhutanese government stated that this project symbolizes friendship and energy cooperation between the two nations. Under this project, the export of electricity from Bhutan to India has commenced. Furthermore, India and Bhutan have agreed to resume the construction of the main dam for the 1200 MW Punatsangchhu-I project. Upon completion, this will be the largest hydroelectric project jointly developed by the two countries.
Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India's support for Bhutan's 13th Five-Year Plan. He stated that India would actively cooperate with Bhutan to achieve its key development priorities and assist in all areas of sustainable development. Additionally, both countries held extensive discussions on economic incentive programs and sustainable development initiatives.
PM Modi also inaugurated the 'Kalachakra Abhishek' program held in Bhutan. This is a significant religious event of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, where prayers are offered for world peace and prosperity. PM Modi's presence at this event further strengthened the cultural and religious ties between India and Bhutan.
