Honors received from Sri Lanka and Mauritius as well
Earlier this year, Sri Lanka and Mauritius also honored Prime Minister Modi with their respective highest honors. In April 2025, the President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, honored him with the 'Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushan'. This is Sri Lanka's highest civilian honor, given only to heads of state and government.
In March 2025, during the National Day celebrations of Mauritius, President D. Gokool honored PM Modi with the 'Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean' (GCSK). This was the first time an Indian leader was given this honor.
Kuwait, Nigeria, and Dominica also honored him
In December 2024, Kuwait honored Prime Minister Modi with the 'Order of Mubarak Al Kabir'. This is Kuwait's highest honor, awarded to prominent international leaders and heads of state.
In November 2024, PM Modi was awarded the 'Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger' (GCON) during his visit to Nigeria. This honor has been received by only a few foreign leaders, including Queen Elizabeth.
Guyana also honored Prime Minister Modi with its highest honor, 'The Order of Excellence'. President Mohamed Irfaan Ali dedicated it to his visionary politics and support for the interests of developing countries.
Honors also in Dominica and Papua New Guinea
During the India-CARICOM Summit held in Guyana, Dominica also honored Prime Minister Modi with the 'Dominica Award of Honour'. This honor was given to him for India's assistance to Dominica during the COVID-19 pandemic and for the strengthening relations between the two countries.
Papua New Guinea also honored Prime Minister Modi with the 'Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu'. This honor is considered equivalent to the title of 'Chief' there.
BJP's attack on Congress
Regarding the continuous international honors received by Prime Minister Modi, the BJP has also targeted the opposition. Amit Malviya, head of the party's IT cell, said on X (formerly Twitter) that PM Modi has received 25 international civilian honors, whereas leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Manmohan Singh together did not receive that many.
He said that the Congress questions foreign policy while its leaders have received only six international honors in so many decades. He called it a great achievement for India and said that today India's leadership is being recognized with pride on the global stage.
