The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and other states from July 5, 2025, and for the next few days. People are urged to be cautious, especially in UP and Bihar, due to the possibility of lightning strikes.
The Meteorological Department has also advised farmers to avoid going to fields or open areas during this period to avoid any major accidents due to lightning or storms.
Where will the clouds rain in Uttar Pradesh?
The monsoon has fully activated in Uttar Pradesh. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in many districts of the state until July 9. Specifically, a warning of heavy rainfall has been issued for the next few days in Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Varanasi, Chandauli, and Sant Ravidas Nagar. In addition, there is a possibility of thunderstorms with heavy rainfall in Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Ghazipur, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, and surrounding areas. There is also a risk of lightning strikes in these areas, so people have been instructed to remain alert.
The weather has also changed in the national capital, Delhi. The rainfall on Friday afternoon brought down the temperature, providing relief from the humid heat. The Meteorological Department estimates that light to moderate rain will continue on Saturday.
Alert in Bihar districts
Bihar is also likely to be affected by heavy rainfall in the next few days. On July 5, there is a possibility of b monsoon showers along with lightning strikes in the districts of Saharsa, Supaul, Madhepura, Bhojpur, and Buxar. The Meteorological Department has stated that this situation is due to the cyclonic circulation over central Assam and Madhya Pradesh, affecting many areas of Bihar.
Rain with b winds in Jharkhand
There is also a warning of heavy rainfall and b winds in the northern districts of Jharkhand on July 5. It is estimated that winds may blow at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour, which can affect daily life. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the Konkan, Goa, and Ghat regions of central Maharashtra during the next seven days in western India. Apart from this, an alert for widespread rainfall has been issued in Saurashtra and Kutch between July 5 and 7.
The Meteorological Department has warned that extremely heavy rainfall may also occur in some parts of South Konkan and Goa, which may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Central India: Prediction of heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh
Heavy rainfall is expected in many places in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh between July 5 and 10. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in different places in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, eastern Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana. In addition, a warning of thunderstorms with rain has been issued in Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, and western Uttar Pradesh. The local administration has been put on alert mode, considering the possibility of landslides and rising water levels in rivers and streams in the mountainous regions.

Moderate to heavy rainfall will continue in most places in North-East India for the next seven days. Particularly, the cycle of heavy rain with thunderstorms will continue in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura. There is a possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in some areas of Meghalaya on July 6, which may lead to flood-like situations.
Heavy rainfall is predicted in some parts of Telangana on July 5 in South India.
