This temple was built in the 14th century by Raja Ban Sen of the Mandi रियासत. This wooden structure is built in the "Kathkhuni" architectural style, which is a living example of Himachal's traditional art.
The Lake's Crater Made by Bhim's Elbow?
The most interesting story associated with this lake is that when the Pandavas were in exile, they passed through this area. During this time, they saw Rishi Parashar performing penance here. To honor the Rishi and to give him a peaceful place for his penance, Bhim struck the mountain with his elbow, which created this lake.
It is said that the lake's unusual shape is because it was not made by humans but by the mighty Bhim's elbow. Because of this, this lake is also known as the lake "built by Bhim."
The Mystery of the Lake
Another mystery of Prashar Lake is that there is a small floating island in the middle of it, which changes its position from time to time. Scientists have been researching this, but no one knows the exact reason why this island changes its position.
Local people believe that this is a miraculous power, while some say that it is the result of Rishi Parashar's penance.
Who was Rishi Parashar?
Rishi Parashar is considered one of the great saints of the Indian Vedic tradition. He was the grandson of Rishi Vashistha and the son of Muni Shakti. Moreover, he is also known as the father of Ved Vyas, who composed the Mahabharata.
Rishi Parashar is counted among those great trilateral seers who had knowledge of the future, present, and past. Several texts like Parashar Smriti and Parashar Samhita are also famous in his name.
