Prayagraj, September 28, 2025 — Cattle in government cowsheds are forced to go hungry and thirsty due to an insufficient supply of green fodder and silage. The current supply is minimal, adversely affecting their nutrition.
Key Highlights
In the Pilkhua cowshed of Mau Aima block, 98 cattle are being raised. Each animal in this cowshed requires approximately 2 kg of dry fodder + at least 3 kg of silage daily, but only 60 kilograms of silage are being procured for the entire month. The Gram Pradhan claims that green fodder is being supplied, yet the animals are primarily chewing dry fodder — the shortage of silage is clearly visible.
Out of the district's total 123 cowsheds, many lack green fodder, several places are not procuring silage, and some are merely going through the motions.
What the Department Says
Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Shivnath Yadav stated that Block Development Officers have been instructed to immediately arrange for silage in cowsheds and ensure nutrition according to standards. It was also stated that swift action would be taken if any deficiencies are found.
