In his discourses, Premanand Maharaj stated that the Guru is the direct manifestation of God, and without them, devotion remains incomplete. He explained that true spiritual practice is one where the seeker is dedicated to the Guru with body, mind, and soul. According to Maharaj, it is the Guru's grace alone that leads a soul towards liberation (moksha), peace, and bliss.
The Significance of Guru Bhakti (Devotion to Guru): Premanand Maharaj affirmed that true peace and bliss in life are only possible when a seeker takes refuge in their Guru. In his recent discourses, he clarified that the Guru is the divine bridge that guides the soul to Shyama-Shyam (Radha-Krishna). According to Premanand Maharaj, worship, austerities, or vows are only meaningful when they are connected with the Guru's command and grace. He states that it is impossible to cross the ocean of life without a Guru, for the Guru is the lamp that dispels the darkness of ignorance and illuminates the path to God.
The Guru is the Direct Manifestation of God
According to Premanand Maharaj, the Guru is the divine power that guides the soul to Shyama-Shyam. He states that true peace, bliss, and liberation in life are only possible when a seeker takes refuge in their Guru. No matter how many austerities, vows, or worship one performs, devotion remains incomplete until the Guru's hand is upon one's head. Maharaj Ji often explains in his discourses that just as a river cannot be crossed without a boat, it is impossible to cross the ocean of life without a Guru.
This relationship between the Guru, God, and the disciple is not an ordinary connection, but rather the path to the union of the individual soul (atma) and the Supreme Soul (paramatma). Premanand Maharaj says that the path to reaching God passes only through the Guru's feet. Therefore, the presence of a Guru is essential in every seeker's life, as they are the true guides who lead from darkness to light.

True Devotion Lies in Obeying the Guru's Commands
Premanand Maharaj clearly states that the worship of a Guru is not completed merely by offering flowers, lamps, or performing Aarti. True worship is following the path they have shown. If a person performs devotion but does not heed the Guru's teachings, their spiritual practice is incomplete. He says, obeying the Guru's command is the greatest chanting (jap), the greatest austerity (tap), and the greatest worship (poojan).
True devotion begins only when the seeker surrenders to their Guru with mind, speech, and action. Maharaj Ji explains that it is said in the scriptures: "Guru and Govind (God) both stand before me; to whom should I bow first? All praise to my Guru, who showed me Govind." This means that the Guru is indeed the power that leads one to God.
Guru Bhakti Means Complete Surrender
According to Premanand Maharaj, the true meaning of Guru devotion is complete surrender with body, mind, and soul. The 'Naam-Mantra' (sacred chant) received from the Guru should become the seeker's life. Maharaj Ji says that the name of Radhe-Radhe should reside in every breath; this is the true gift of the Guru. He believes that the divine name yields fruit only when received through the Guru's grace. Chanting performed solely by one's own will merely becomes an act of showmanship.
He also states that if God becomes displeased, the Guru, through their grace, protects the seeker. However, if the Guru becomes displeased, not even God can save them. Therefore, maintaining the Guru's grace is the seeker's greatest dharma (righteous duty).
The Guru's Command is the Essence of Dharma
Premanand Maharaj asserts that the most important rule of spiritual practice (sadhana) is obedience to the Guru's command. The seeker who adheres to the Guru's words truly becomes worthy of devotion. He explains that the Guru is the lamp that dispels the darkness of ignorance and fills the devotee with divine light.
This message repeatedly appears in Maharaj Ji's discourses: the Guru is not merely an individual but a form of consciousness that guides the seeker's life. According to him, only through the Guru's grace can a seeker attain self-realization and the state of union with the Supreme Being.
