Jharkhand: President Droupadi Murmu will attend the 45th convocation of the Indian School of Mines (ISM), now known as IIT (ISM), in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, on Friday. Just a day prior, she graced the first convocation of AIIMS in Deoghar. Now, she is scheduled to be present at the event of this prominent institution in Dhanbad.

Priyanshu Sharma to Receive President's Gold Medal

At the ceremony, Priyanshu Sharma, a B.Tech student in Computer Science and Engineering, will be awarded the President's Gold Medal. He secured the top ranking in the 2024-25 batch. This award, presented by the President of the country, is a significant step towards inspiring the nation's best technical students.

1880 Students to be Awarded Degrees

A total of 1,880 students will be awarded degrees in various disciplines at this convocation ceremony. These degrees will be conferred upon students at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD levels. Additionally, 37 students will receive gold medals, 35 will receive silver medals, and 21 will be given incentive awards at the ceremony.

Presence of Several Dignitaries Expected

The presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar, and Chief Minister Hemant Soren is anticipated. Historical Background of ISM

IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, was established on December 9, 1926. It was founded along the lines of the prestigious Royal School of Mines, London. Its objective was to prepare trained and skilled professionals for the rapidly emerging mining industry in India. Over time, this institution has become a leader not only in mining but also in Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and other engineering branches.
