The Delhi Police has a new leader. Senior IPS officer Shashi Bhushan Kumar Singh (SBK Singh) of the 1988 batch has been given the additional charge of Delhi Police Commissioner. SBK Singh will assume this responsibility after the current Commissioner Sanjay Arora retires. He has a long administrative experience of 35 years and has served in many important positions.
New Delhi: The nation's capital, Delhi, has now got a new and experienced police chief. Senior IPS officer SBK Singh, who hails from Bihar, has been given the additional charge of Delhi Police Commissioner. The government made this important appointment as the current Commissioner Sanjay Arora retires on July 31, 2025. SBK Singh is an officer of the 1988 batch AGMUT cadre and has held important law and order responsibilities in various parts of the country.
Excellent in Studies, Skilled in Administration
SBK Singh's academic and intellectual journey has been quite commendable. He studied BSc (Honours) in Physics from Delhi University's prestigious St. Stephen's College. He was also the President of the Planning Forum during his college days, which reflects his leadership ability. After this, he passed the UPSC examination and joined the Indian Police Service in 1988. With the aim of further strengthening administrative efficiency, he also obtained a degree in Human Resource Management (MBA-HR).
Journey from Initial Role in Delhi Police to the Top
SBK Singh's police career began in Delhi itself. He served as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Central Delhi in 1990 in the Delhi Police. Later, he was also posted as ACP in Karol Bagh. While serving as SP in Khonsa district of Arunachal Pradesh, he also worked in border and sensitive areas.
He held important positions like Additional DCP and DCP in South, Central and North East Zone of Delhi. His services as SP in Telecom and Transport sector have also been remarkable.
Also Held Important Responsibilities in Central Government and States
SBK Singh's administrative services were not limited to Delhi or the police department. He has also worked in the central government's Cabinet Secretariat as Deputy Secretary and Director. Apart from this, he has also led in high positions like DIG in Puducherry, Inspector General in Arunachal Pradesh and DGP in Mizoram.
In Delhi too, he served as Special Commissioner from February 2022 to June 2022. Since then, he was working as Director General of Delhi Home Guards.
