A property dealer died in a fatal accident in Aligarh after falling into a lift duct inside a multi-storey building, according to preliminary information. The incident occurred when the individual was inside the building and allegedly could not correctly identify the lift and lift duct due to darkness, resulting in him falling directly into the shaft.

According to eyewitnesses, panic spread inside the building after the incident. People immediately began rescue efforts and informed police and ambulance services. After considerable effort, the injured man was pulled out, but his condition had become critical.

He was taken to a nearby hospital in an injured condition, where doctors declared him dead after examination. Family members and acquaintances reached the hospital in large numbers after receiving information about the incident.

Initial information suggests that there was insufficient lighting at the location where the accident occurred. It is being presumed at the preliminary stage that due to darkness, the individual did not realise that the lift was not present and fell directly into the lift shaft. Moments later, the lift reportedly came into operation, worsening the incident.

Subheading: Police Begin Investigation

The Uttar Pradesh Police reached the spot, inspected the site and started an investigation. Police are attempting to determine whether safety standards were being followed in the building. An inquiry is also underway into whether there was any negligence in lift operation and maintenance.

Subheading: Questions Raised Over Building Safety

Local residents said negligence regarding safety measures in multi-storey buildings is often observed. They said adequate lighting, warning signs and safety barriers in the lift area could potentially have prevented such an accident.

Following the incident, questions have also been raised over the building’s safety arrangements. Administrative officials are collecting information related to building management documents and safety measures. If any negligence is found during the investigation, action may be taken against those responsible.

The deceased property dealer was reportedly well known in the area. Family members have demanded a fair investigation into the case.

Police are continuing to investigate the matter. After post-mortem examination and other legal formalities, the body will be handed over to the family. The actual circumstances of the incident and accountability will be determined after the investigation report is completed.
