Punjab Assembly Session 2025: During the Punjab Assembly session, a heated debate unfolded between Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa. The discussion, initially centered on Punjab rehabilitation, suddenly devolved into a series of accusations and counter-accusations. Cheema accused Bajwa of purchasing land near the Dhussi Bundh in Phoolan village and other villages in Gurdaspur, stating that the previous government had spent Rs 1.18 crore to protect this land.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema alleged that Partap Singh Bajwa continuously finds fault with the government's work. He stated that Bajwa purchased land adjacent to the Dhussi Bundh and profited from the sand that came with it. Cheema explained that the government had to spend a significant amount to protect this land.
Bajwa Dismisses Allegations
Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa completely dismissed Cheema's allegations. He stated that he had purchased the land from private individuals and that all stamp duty had been paid. Bajwa also alleged that while several Congress leaders were jailed in the excise scam, Cheema was spared because his party has a nexus with the BJP.
Counter-Allegations Against Finance Minister
Bajwa further claimed that the Congress party receives Rs 35 lakh every month from each distillery. He leveled serious allegations of corruption and irregularities against Cheema. Following this, the atmosphere in the House grew even more tense.
Uproar in the House and Speaker's Reaction
Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan instructed both sides to remain calm and return to their seats. However, Congress MLA Avtar Singh Junior Henry accused the Speaker of partiality, stating that the Leader of Opposition was not being given an opportunity to speak.

During this, the debate between Partap Singh Bajwa and Harpal Singh Cheema continued. With microphones turned off, nothing could be heard in the House. Cheema left his seat and moved forward, followed by MLAs from both sides. The atmosphere became so tense that the Speaker adjourned the House proceedings for ten minutes.
