Rahul Gandhi Slams 'Make in India', Highlights Scheme's Failures

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has once again launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the government's 'Make in India' initiative. He highlighted the scheme's failures and raised several serious questions.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has once again leveled sharp criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This time, his target is the much-discussed 'Make in India' initiative, questioning both the government's intent and policy. Gandhi stated that the Prime Minister excels at creating slogans but has failed to address real problems.

On Saturday, sharing a video on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Rahul Gandhi shared his conversation with two young men, Shivam and Saif, in Delhi's Nehru Place. Through this interaction, he attempted to highlight the country's economic challenges and youth unemployment. He said, "Millions of talented, skilled, and promising young people like Shivam and Saif are not being given opportunities to progress."

Decline in Manufacturing, Surge in Imports

Rahul Gandhi stated that while the 'Make in India' initiative made grand promises, the ground reality is quite different. Since 2014, India's manufacturing capacity has decreased to 14% of the economy. The promised factory boom remained merely an election slogan. He also expressed concern that India's imports from China have more than doubled. "We don't manufacture; we merely assemble and then become dependent on imports. This benefits China, while our youth are trapped in the mire of unemployment," he said.

PLI Scheme Also Faltering?

Rahul Gandhi also questioned the government's PLI (Production Linked Incentive) scheme, claiming that the government has quietly shelved it. He asserted that this scheme too has failed to achieve its objectives and has not provided real strength to the country's industries. He alleged that the Modi government has run out of new economic ideas, relying solely on publicity. "But publicity doesn't build a country's economic foundation; that requires sound policies and implementation," Gandhi added.

Gandhi's Solution: Honest Reforms and Financial Aid

Rahul Gandhi advocated for significant changes to secure India's economic future. He stated that if India is to become self-reliant, it must invest in its domestic industries. He appealed to the government to implement honest reforms and provide financial assistance to Indian producers. "We are wasting time. If we don't improve now, we will remain dependent on other countries in the future," the Congress leader warned.

Rahul Gandhi's statement comes at a time when the central government recently mentioned 'Make in India 2.0' and the Ministry of Industry announced new measures to attract investment. However, Gandhi dismissed these announcements as hollow, stating that until employment, production, and exports increase at the grassroots level, it will all remain mere "sloganeering."
