Rajasthan is experiencing a dual impact of extreme heat and impending rain. While a severe heatwave affects 22 districts, the meteorological department has issued a storm and rain alert for 8 districts. This change is considered indicative of pre-monsoon activities. The meteorological department anticipates pre-monsoon showers in several districts, including the capital Jaipur, by June 20.
Heatwave Alert in 22 Districts
Temperatures are soaring in the western and northern parts of Rajasthan. Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Nagaur, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, Sikar, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, Dausa, and 10 other districts are experiencing temperatures ranging from 44 to 47 degrees Celsius. The meteorological department has issued red and orange alerts for these districts, advising citizens to remain indoors between 12 pm and 4 pm.
The health department has also issued guidelines to prevent heatstroke. Hospitals have been instructed to provide ORS, coolers, and fans. Medical teams are on high alert to provide immediate first aid in case of heatstroke.
Storm and Rain Warning in 8 Districts
Sudden weather changes are being observed in the southern and eastern parts of Rajasthan. Kota, Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, Jhalawar, and Baran are expected to experience heavy rain accompanied by b winds and thunderstorms. The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for these districts, warning of dust storms with wind speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. Farmers in this region are advised to protect their crops and secure any outdoor belongings.
Pre-Monsoon Activities to Begin Tomorrow
The meteorological department has informed that the first pre-monsoon showers in Rajasthan may begin on June 14th. This activity will commence in the southern districts and gradually progress towards eastern and central Rajasthan. Rainfall is predicted in Jaipur, Ajmer, Alwar, Bhilwara, and Bharatpur between June 18th and 20th. According to the department, the change in wind direction is due to a monsoon system originating from the Bay of Bengal, increasing humidity. The impact of this will be clearly visible in the coming days.
Appeal for Public Vigilance
The state government and the disaster management department have appealed to the public to remain vigilant about the rapidly changing weather conditions. Elderly people, children, and those with underlying health conditions are advised to exercise extra caution to avoid heatstroke and storms. The water resources department and municipal bodies have been instructed to clean drains and improve drainage systems before the rains. The electricity department has also been asked to remain prepared to maintain power supply during storms.
