Due to the activation of two trough lines of the monsoon in Rajasthan, an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Jaisalmer, Barmer, and 13 other districts. School holidays have been declared in eight districts.
Jaipur: The Meteorological Department in Rajasthan has issued a warning for heavy rainfall on Monday, September 8. According to the department, intermittent rainfall is occurring in the western and southwestern parts of the state due to two monsoon trough lines. Trough lines originating from the Bay of Bengal and Gujarat are keeping the monsoon active in Rajasthan.
Consequently, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in 13 districts including Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Balotra, and Sirohi. The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for these five districts and a Yellow Alert for the remaining eight districts. The district administration, in view of safety, has declared holidays in schools of eight districts, while it is mandatory for teachers and staff to attend school.
Schools Closed Due to Rain
In view of the rain warning, all government and private schools in Udaipur (excluding the municipal corporation area), Salumbar, Jalore, Dungarpur, Sirohi, Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Balotra will remain closed. The administration stated that this step has been taken to ensure the safety of children.
Furthermore, people in rain-affected areas have been advised not to go near rivers and drains. The administration has activated relief operations and rescue teams in the affected areas. These measures are being taken to prevent accidents due to flash floods and waterlogging.
Heavy Rainfall in Jaipur and Surrounding Districts on Sunday
Intermittent heavy rain also occurred in Jaipur and surrounding districts on Sunday, September 7. According to the Meteorological Department, Mount Abu recorded 160 mm of rainfall, Jaswantpura 52 mm, Tibbi in Hanumangarh 39 mm, and Pratapgarh 36 mm. Several districts including Sirohi, Barmer, Bharatpur, Udaipur, and Chittorgarh also received 20-30 mm of rain.
This continuous rainfall has affected normal life in the region. Reports of waterlogging in low-lying areas and road closures are emerging. For farmers and villagers, this rain can be both a boon and a bane, as there is a risk of damage to fields and crops due to sudden floods.
Administration Issues Safety Warning
Several accidents have also occurred amidst the heavy rainfall. In Shahpura, Bhilwara, a car was swept away in b currents on Sunday, resulting in the death of a youth. Meanwhile, in Bali district, two youths were washed away in the Bandi river during Ganpati immersion. Such incidents highlight the severe impact of the rain.
During this year's monsoon, several districts in Rajasthan have also witnessed fatalities. Experts advise avoiding going near rivers and bridges during heavy rainfall. The administration has warned people to stay in safe places and seek assistance from rescue teams if needed.
