Richest and Poorest Chief Ministers of India: An Asset Analysis

The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch have released a report on the assets of Chief Ministers in India. This report includes all Chief Ministers from 27 states and 3 union territories.

New Delhi: There is a significant difference in the assets of the 30 Chief Ministers of India. Recently, the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch released a detailed report on the assets of Chief Ministers of states and union territories. The report reveals who the richest Chief Ministers in the country are and who has the least wealth.

According to the report, the total assets of the current 30 Chief Ministers of India amount to ₹1,632 crore. The average asset holding of these Chief Ministers is stated to be approximately ₹54.42 crore. However, there is a considerable difference in assets based on states and individual Chief Ministers.

Richest Chief Ministers

Out of the 30 Chief Ministers, only two are billionaires. At the top is Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, with total assets exceeding ₹931 crore. Second is Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who possesses assets worth over ₹332 crore. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is third, with total assets exceeding ₹51 crore. These figures indicate that some state Chief Ministers are extremely wealthy, while many others have modest assets to maintain their normal lifestyles.

Chief Ministers with the Least Assets

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the Chief Minister with the least assets, possessing just over ₹15.38 lakh. Second is Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, with assets worth ₹55.24 lakh. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has assets of ₹1.18 crore. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma is reported to have assets of ₹1.46 crore.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has total assets of ₹1.54 crore. In comparison, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is slightly ahead, with assets of ₹1.64 crore. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi have similar assets of ₹1.97 crore each. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has total assets of ₹3.80 crore.

Assets of Other Chief Ministers

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has assets worth approximately ₹5.50 crore.
  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assets of ₹3.25 crore.
  • Karnataka's Basavaraj Bommai has assets of ₹2.10 crore.
  • Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is reported to have assets of ₹2.95 crore.

ADR and National Election Watch have prepared this report based on the affidavits filed by all the Chief Ministers before contesting elections. The affidavits include details related to assets, bank balances, investments, and other properties. The Chief Minister of Manipur is not included in this report as President's Rule is currently in effect there.
