Former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday put an end to all speculation, clarifying that he is not in the race to become the next BCCI President. Rumors had been circulating for the past few days that the Master Blaster was being considered to replace Roger Binny.
Sports News: Former batsman Sachin Tendulkar has now provided clarity on the ongoing speculation regarding the BCCI President's post in Indian cricket. For the past few days, there was a discussion that the Master Blaster could be appointed as the next BCCI President, but Sachin put an end to all these speculations with an official statement on Thursday.
Sachin Tendulkar said, "It has come to our notice that several reports and rumors are circulating about Sachin Tendulkar being considered or nominated for the post of BCCI President. We wish to state clearly that nothing of this sort has happened. All concerned parties are requested not to pay attention to baseless speculation."
Roger Binny's Tenure Ends
The post of BCCI President is currently vacant. Roger Binny had resigned from the post earlier this year after completing 70 years of age. According to the Board's constitution, no office-bearer can remain in the presidential post after completing 70 years of age. In the meantime, Vice President Rajiv Shukla has taken over as the interim president. The process of electing the new president will be completed at the BCCI's Annual General Meeting to be held on September 28.
Trend of Former Cricketers Taking Over as BCCI President
The trend of former cricketers taking over as BCCI President began in 2019. At that time, Sourav Ganguly took over the post. Later, Roger Binny, a member of India's 1983 World Cup-winning team, succeeded him. This tradition has indicated in Indian cricket that cricketers can also contribute to leadership and administration.
Discussions about Sachin Tendulkar's name were also arising because he is considered the biggest legend of Indian cricket. Due to his cricket career and administrative understanding, many people were in his favor to provide leadership in the BCCI. It is possible that a prominent cricketer's name might be considered unanimously for the President's post at the upcoming BCCI meeting. Recently, Abhishek Tripathi, Sports Editor of Dainik Jagran, revealed in a report that a legendary cricketer was being approached for this top post.
However, after Sachin's clear statement, the possibility of him being involved in this race has ended. It will now be interesting to see which experienced cricketer or administrator the board will choose for the President's post.
