Samajwadi Party Prepares for 2027 Elections with Focus on Lost Constituencies

The Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh has initiated strategic planning for the upcoming 2027 elections. Recognizing the need for improved performance, the party is focusing on constituencies where it has historically faced weakness or experienced defeat in previous elections.

UP Politics: New developments are unfolding in Uttar Pradesh’s political landscape. The Samajwadi Party (SP) has begun preparations for Mission 2027, signaling a renewed effort. Party President Akhilesh Yadav has identified 108 assembly constituencies where the SP has consistently lost elections over the past three terms. A comprehensive strategic plan is now being developed to strengthen the party’s presence on these challenging seats.

Focus on These 108 Constituencies

The 108 constituencies identified by the SP have largely seen the party endure losses for three consecutive elections.

  • Central Uttar Pradesh: इलाहाबाद पश्चिम (Ilahabad West), लखनऊ कैंटोनमेंट (Lucknow Cantonment)
  • Eastern Uttar Pradesh: बासी (Baisi), देवरिया (Devarhia)
  • Western Uttar Pradesh: नोएडा (Noida), गंगोह (Gangoh)
  • Brajpuri Region: आगरा कैंटोनमेंट (Agra Cantonment), एत्मादपुर (Etmadpur)

The responsibility for reviewing the SP’s weak performance in these regions and revitalizing the organization has been entrusted to designated observers.

A Thorough Initial Assessment

This marks the first time the SP has undertaken a detailed ground-level inspection campaign to understand the realities of its struggling constituencies with such seriousness. According to sources, former MLAs and experienced leaders have been appointed as observers for these 108 seats. Notably, these leaders are not local, aiming to prevent any bias or factionalism.

Beyond simply focusing on its lost seats, the SP is also reviewing constituencies where it secured victories in 2022 through alliances with coalition partners, such as:

  • The शामली (Shamli) seat was won in 2022 in partnership with the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), but experienced defeats in 2012 and 2017.
  • Certain constituencies in फिरोजाबाद (Firozabad) and बदायूं (Badaun) have also presented challenges for the SP.

Frequent Visits Over 15 Days

  • The observer teams have conducted two visits to each of these constituencies over the past 15 days.
  • Meetings with district units, local presidents, and booth coordinators
  • Discussions with influential local figures based on caste dynamics
  • A review of the current state of the organization
  • All inputs will be submitted to Akhilesh Yadav as a report, informing the sharpening of the strategy for Mission 2027.

PDA and Strengthening the Ground Organization

The SP is also aiming to reinforce its PDA (Backward Classes, Dalits, and Minorities) strategy on these constituencies. This social coalition proved crucial to the SP’s success in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Now, this model is being replicated for the upcoming assembly elections, but with a more localized and detailed approach.

Following its victory in 80 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the SP intends to maintain this momentum and carry it through to the 2027 assembly elections. According to SP sources, “We will not leave any loose ends that could jeopardize our chances in the election. Our goal is to transform every lost seat into a victory.”
