Samsung is preparing to launch its Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 with a slimmer design ahead of the potential launch of a foldable iPhone. The company is adopting this strategy in view of the growing global trend of slim smartphones and increasing market competition. Additionally, it will introduce its tri-fold phone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, next month.
Foldable Smartphone Market: In Seoul, Samsung is accelerating work on its new foldable devices, keeping in mind the foldable iPhone expected next year. According to reports, the company is preparing to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 with a slimmer design, as Apple's entry in September 2025 is expected to intensify market competition. Under the same strategy, Samsung is also set to launch its first tri-fold phone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, on December 5th, which is seen as an attempt to further strengthen its presence in the foldable segment.
Samsung's New Strategy
According to reports, Samsung believes that a foldable iPhone could bring a major shift in the market and attract many users. This is why the company is moving towards bringing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 in a slim design. Samsung had introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 7 last year with a significantly thinner profile, which also boosted its popularity.
The thickness of the Z Flip 7 was not given special attention, and it is believed that this affected its sales. Now, the company might introduce both models with a consistent premium and slim design to enhance the user experience and maintain its hold even as competition increases.

Global Trend Also Increasing Samsung's Focus
Over the past few years, the global trend for slim smartphones has consistently grown. Many companies are offering lighter and thinner designs for their devices. Considering this trend, Samsung is also paying special attention to the thickness of its foldable devices. The company wants its new foldable phones to be not only feature-rich but also superior in terms of design and ergonomics.
This change is considered strategically important for Samsung even before the arrival of Apple's foldable iPhone, as Apple's entry could suddenly increase both demand and competition in the foldable market.
Samsung's Tri-Fold Phone Also Ready for Launch
Samsung is also set to launch its first tri-fold phone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, next month. According to reports, it could be unveiled on December 5th. The phone will feature a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen, which will unfold into a 10-inch display. It will run on a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and may come with 16GB RAM along with storage options ranging from 256GB to 1TB.
The Galaxy Z TriFold will run on One UI 8.0, based on Android 16. It will feature two hinges, allowing the phone to fold into three sections. When unfolded, its appearance will resemble the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The company views this launch as a way to further strengthen its lead in the foldable market.
