Today, January 3rd, a Group Stage match between Punjab and Sikkim will be played in Jaipur as part of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. The Punjab team will include Shubman Gill, the captain of India's ODI and Test squads.
Sports News: The fifth round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 begins today, January 3rd. This round will feature a Group Stage match between Punjab and Sikkim at the Local College Ground in Jaipur. India's ODI and Test team captain, Shubman Gill, will also be seen playing for Punjab in this match.
However, entry for spectators has been completely restricted for this match. The BCCI has decided to deploy private bouncers at the stadium, citing security reasons.
Why the Match Will Be ‘Closed Door’
A BCCI source told PTI that only students and college staff will be allowed entry to the premises. “No outsiders will be allowed to enter the premises. Private bouncers will be deployed and all necessary security measures will be taken, keeping security in mind. The main reason behind this decision is stated to be a lack of security and security arrangements.” Previously, veteran Virat Kohli also played two of his Vijay Hazare Trophy matches behind closed doors, without spectators.
In addition to Shubman Gill, India's experienced fast bowler Arshdeep Singh will also play for the Punjab team. Arshdeep has earned his place in the team with his performances in recent matches against Sikkim and Goa. The presence of these players is expected to strengthen the Punjab team.

The Match Will Not Be Broadcast
According to reports, this Vijay Hazare Trophy match featuring Shubman Gill will not be broadcast on any TV or online platform. Previously, some of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's Vijay Hazare Trophy matches were also held without broadcast. The BCCI says this step has been taken in view of security reasons and location limitations.
Although Shubman Gill is the captain of the Indian ODI and Test teams, he was not included in the ICC T20 World Cup 2025 squad. The 26-year-old Gill had returned to India's T20 team in the Asia Cup and was also the vice-captain of the team. However, due to his performance, he was dropped from the T20 World Cup team.
