India’s disappointing run in the FIH Pro League 2026 continued against Spain as they lost 4-3 in a shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time in Hobart on Tuesday.
With the result, India have two points from seven matches and are placed eighth in the nine-team competition.
First-Half Lead for India
India made an encouraging start to the contest. In the 19th minute, Maninder Singh scored to give India a 1-0 lead following a pass from captain Hardik Singh. India maintained the advantage until half-time.
In the third quarter, Spain’s Fortuno received a green card, leaving Spain with 10 players on the field. India attempted to capitalise on a penalty corner in the 44th minute, but Calzado stopped Jugraj Singh’s shot.
Spain Equalise in Final Quarter

At the start of the final quarter, India’s Sanjay received a green card, reducing India to 10 players. During this phase, Bruno Font scored for Spain to level the score at 1-1 following a defensive lapse.
As the scores remained level at the end of regulation time, the match was decided by a shootout.
Shootout Defeat
In the shootout, Abhishek and Hardik Singh missed their attempts, and Spain secured a 4-3 win. India earned one point from the match.
India will next face Australia on Wednesday in the fourth match of the Hobart leg. In the first leg, India had drawn 2-2 against Australia before losing 4-5 in the shootout.
