Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu Warns Against Over-Reliance on AI

Sridhar Vembu, co-founder and Chief Scientist of Zoho Corporation, has warned professionals about the indiscriminate use of AI. He says that AI is helpful in learning and accelerating work, but if used without review or with complete dependence, it can harm productivity and quality.

Artificial Intelligence: Sridhar Vembu, co-founder and Chief Scientist of Zoho Corporation, shared his experiences on X (formerly Twitter) in August 2025, warning that artificial intelligence should be used thoughtfully. He stated that it is an excellent tool for learning and speeding up work, but it can be dangerous if blindly trusted or if AI-generated content is sent to customers unchecked. According to Vembu, AI is only an assistant, not a replacement for humans.

Benefits of Proper Use

Vembu believes that AI accelerates the learning process and also speeds up work. For example, in customer support, AI helps agents respond faster, improving customer experience. Similarly, on some platforms, it enhances the product experience, as the Grok tool does on X (formerly Twitter).

However, he says that AI should not completely replace humans. Blindly relying on AI, especially in content creation, is not right. According to Vembu, "The biggest mistake is sending AI-generated text to the customer without disclosing it. This can affect the company's credibility."

Vembu's Method of Using AI

Sharing his experience on X in August 2025, Sridhar Vembu said that he uses AI tools two to three times a day. He revealed that he has the top-5 AI apps installed on his phone and considers himself a "moderate to heavy user."

He said that AI has reduced his web searching by about 80%, as AI provides direct and quick answers. Interestingly, Vembu often lets different AI chat systems debate with each other to understand a complex topic in depth.

Vembu's Warning: Use AI with Caution

Vembu warned that AI should be used with caution. He says that using code written by AI directly is extremely dangerous. Putting this code into a production system without review is unprofessional.

According to him, code written by AI must undergo strict compliance, privacy, and security reviews. If this process is skipped, developers may save time, but it can create major risks for the company in the long run.

Vembu said that sometimes these checks take so much time that the time saved by AI is wasted. In such situations, AI can also prove to be productivity-reducing.

AI is a Tool, Not a Replacement for Humans

Talking about Zoho Corporation's policy, Vembu said that the company encourages its programmers to use AI to learn and solve problems, but not to replace human judgment.

He says that it is wrong to consider AI as a replacement for humans. "AI is a great learning tool, but it cannot replace human thinking, creativity, and decision-making ability."

Zoho's Continuous Experiments with AI

Vembu also added that Zoho is constantly experimenting with AI. As real-world experiences emerge, the company is also changing its strategy. He made it clear that the role of AI will become clearer in the future, but for now, it is wise to adopt it cautiously.
