Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty and her family have refused to participate in the Karnataka caste survey. They cited the privacy of personal information and personal reasons. The Deputy CM stated that participation in the survey is entirely optional.

Caste Survey: Tech industry veteran and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty and her family have refused to participate in the ongoing caste survey in Karnataka. Sudha Murty herself informed the media about this decision. She stated that her family will not participate in the survey as it is not necessary for them and the privacy of personal information should be maintained.

What is the reason behind this?

Sudha Murty and her family said that participating in the caste survey could increase the risk of their personal information becoming public. They believe there is a possibility of misuse of personal information in government surveys. Furthermore, they also stated that their family does not belong to any backward class, and therefore, there is no need for them to be included in this survey.

Response through Self-Declaration

According to an NDTV report, Sudha Murty signed a self-declaration stating her family's non-participation in the Social and Educational Survey conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes (KSCBC). It clearly stated that the family's decision not to participate in the survey was due to personal reasons and to protect privacy.

Sudha Murty also questioned the necessity of the survey. She stated that no government objective would be served in their case, and therefore, participating in the survey was unnecessary for them.

Karnataka's Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar reacted to Sudha Murty's decision. He said that participation in the survey is entirely optional and no one can be forced.
