Surat: On Monday, a 13-year-old student in the Udhna area ended his life by jumping from the ninth floor of Shubh Residency. The deceased student was in the ninth grade and was the only son of his parents. His exams were underway at the time of the incident. According to initial information, the student took this extreme step after being scolded by his family concerning his studies.
Local residents saw the student sitting on the railing and attempted to save him, but he was unresponsive to their pleas. His action has plunged the entire locality into grief and shock. CCTV footage shows the student taking the elevator to the building's rooftop.
Family Mourns Son's Death
The student lived with his parents in Prabhunagar Society. According to his parents, he was a bright and mischievous child. The family is engulfed in sorrow following the death of their only son. Local neighbors and teachers also described the incident as extremely tragic.
Police stated that in the past, the student would leave home for several hours after being scolded, but this time, he returned in a deceased state. This incident serves as a warning to parents and society that paying close attention to children's mental health and emotional well-being is extremely crucial.
Impact of Exam Pressure and Mental Health
Exam pressure and scolding at home are being cited as the main reasons behind the student's suicide. According to experts, children's mental state during adolescence is very sensitive. It is important to distract children in any stressful situation and understand their feelings.
Such incidents indicate that parents should adopt a communicative and supportive approach with their children, so that they do not take such extreme steps in stressful situations due to their decisions.
