The monsoon session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly witnessed intense political heat on Thursday, July 24th. Former Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a scathing attack on the incumbent Nitish Kumar government, stating that the NDA government has no clear vision for Bihar.
Patna: On the fourth day of the monsoon session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav bly criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the NDA government. He stated that the NDA is merely copying the announcements made by the Mahagathbandhan in anticipation of the upcoming assembly elections, but they lack a realistic vision for Bihar.
Tejashwi Accuses Government of Being a Copycat
Tejashwi launched a surprise attack in the House, stating: We had announced increases in social security pensions, free electricity, and increased caste-based reservations; now the NDA is making the same announcements. This is a copycat government. He also pointed out that the initiative to increase reservations to 65% was first taken by the Mahagathbandhan, but it has not yet been included in the Ninth Schedule of the Central Government, while the JDU-supported BJP has put a roadblock in the court in this matter.
Tejashwi clearly stated that the NDA has no concrete plan for the development of Bihar in the next 5 years. He alleged that serious problems like paper leaks in competitive exams also reflect the government's negligence. When Tejashwi claimed on this issue that Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary himself had spoken about the paper leak, Samrat stood up and called it a lie. Tejashwi said that he has video evidence of this.
Sharp Criticism of NITI Aayog Report
Referring to the NITI Aayog report, Tejashwi Yadav said that Bihar has proved to be a 'laggard' in every field. He also alleged that Prime Minister Modi has not been able to get the Motihari sugar mill running till now, while this project has been stuck for years. Tejashwi attacked the SIR (Special Intensive Revision)—the special review process of the voter list—saying that it is a scam-like process. He said that this will only be a preparation to win the election, while it is playing with the fundamental process of democracy.
Irregularities and Dissatisfaction in SIR
Tejashwi alleged that names are being removed by booth level officers under the SIR process, which will affect many migrant voters. He asked why Aadhaar, ration, MNREGA cards are not being accepted, while the Supreme Court has also validated them. He warned that if the electoral roll revision continues in this way, the Mahagathbandhan may be forced to boycott the elections.
JDU's Vijay Choudhary retaliated against Tejashwi, saying that Nitish is running the state with the blessings of God, and no one can "hijack" him. On the other hand, BJP's Lalan Singh termed Tejashwi's words as baseless allegations, while the Chief Minister said that the dissatisfaction on SIR is an issue raised due to lack of work.
