An encounter between security forces and terrorists took place on Friday night, August 1st, in the Akhal area of Kulgam district in South Kashmir, resulting in the killing of one terrorist. Chinar Corps confirmed the encounter on Saturday morning.
Jammu & Kashmir: The security forces' campaign against terrorism is continuously intensifying. In this sequence, in Operation Akhal (Op Akhal) underway in the Akhal area of Kulgam district in Jammu & Kashmir, one terrorist has been killed so far, while 2-3 terrorists are still suspected to be hiding in the area.
This joint operation is being conducted by a team comprising the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police, CRPF, and the Special Operations Group (SOG). The operation started on Friday night, August 1st, and is still ongoing.
Operation lasted all night, one terrorist killed
The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army confirmed on Saturday morning that under Operation Akhal, the security forces cordoned off the terrorists with vigilance and strategy, during which intense intermittent firing took place. In this encounter, one terrorist was killed, although his identity has not yet been made public. The army said that despite the darkness and challenging geography in the jungle area, the operation is being carried out carefully.
According to sources, security forces received a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the jungle area of Akhal, after which a comprehensive search operation was launched. A joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and CRPF began cordoning off the area on Friday evening. As the security forces approached the suspected activities, the terrorists suddenly started firing. In retaliation, one terrorist was killed.
2-3 more terrorists suspected in the area
According to Chinar Corps, there may still be 2-3 terrorists hiding in the area, who are possibly linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Intermittent firing continues from the terrorists, making the operation even more sensitive. In view of this threat, the security forces have further strengthened the cordon and additional troops have been sent to the spot.
In view of the seriousness of the operation, the security forces have appealed to the local people to stay away from the area. Partial restrictions have been imposed on mobile networks in the area to avoid rumors and surveillance on social media has been increased.
