Varanasi: The administrative office of the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Rural), Ganga Pollution Control Unit, located at Deenapur STP, has been sealed following a court order. This action stems from a dispute concerning compensation that has not been paid to farmers whose land was acquired approximately 40 years ago.

In 1986, land belonging to farmers in Deenapur Gram Sabha was acquired for the construction of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). However, a dispute over compensation has persisted for years. Despite orders from local courts and the High Court, the farmers have not received adequate payment to date, leading the case to the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Authority (LARA) Court. During the hearing, the presiding officer ordered the office of the Executive Engineer to be attached and subsequently sealed.

The court has also directed officials to submit a report by the next hearing date regarding the sealed office. Throughout this lengthy legal process, many farmers have passed away while awaiting compensation, and their heirs are now continuing the fight for justice.

This action is based on the farmers’ decades-long demand for justice and the outstanding issue of compensation, which has brought the sluggishness of the administration and the judicial system to public attention.
