A new gang carrying out activities similar to the Chhangur gang has been exposed in the Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. Police have arrested the gang's leader, Abdul Majid, along with Salman, Arif, and Faheem.
Bareilly: A gang involved in activities similar to the Chhangur Baba gang has been apprehended in UP. The leader of this gang is Abdul Majid, who runs a madrasa. Police have arrested Abdul Majid along with other members of the gang, Salman, Arif, and Faheem. According to reports, this gang has converted numerous people across the country.
This includes an entire family and members of two other families in Bareilly. The police are interrogating the accused and are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
Gang Exposed
The gang leader, Abdul Majid, operates a madrasa and is the main person responsible for the conversions. Other members of the gang performed different responsibilities.
- Salman – A resident of the Subhash Nagar police station area, works as a tailor. He would lure people into the gang's trap and provide them with Islamic books, CDs, and religious texts.
- Arif – A resident of Kareli, helps Salman in his work.
- Faheem – Works as a barber. His main job was to identify people for the gang and pass on their information to other members.
Police said that the gang first converted Brijpal and his entire family. After this, the gang also targeted Prabhat Upadhyay and his family members. The gang's next target was a B.Com student, but police caught them due to information received.
Suspicion of Foreign Funding
In the initial investigation, police also suspect that the gang was receiving financial assistance through foreign funding. Over two thousand transactions, totaling approximately 1.3 million rupees, have been recorded in Abdul Majid's bank account in the last eight months. Salman and his wife have 12 bank accounts, while Arif and Faheem have two bank accounts each.
Police have obtained information on all bank accounts and have started a detailed investigation. Police say that all members are currently being interrogated extensively to determine the extent of the gang's network across the country. Similarities between the gang's modus operandi and activities and those of the Chhangur gang have been found. Such gangs convert people by putting mental and social pressure on them.
Police say that the gang used brainwashing techniques and economic power to carry out its work. Police have also gathered information from local people and affected families. Officials say that the gang members have been carrying out conversions in local areas and other states for many years.
