The Vande Bharat train has ushered in a new revolution in the country in terms of speed. The indigenously built Vande Bharat Sleeper train achieved a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour during speed trials in the Kota division of West Central Railway, setting a new record.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: Indian Railways has once again demonstrated the power of indigenous technology. The Vande Bharat Sleeper train achieved a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour during speed trials in the Kota division of West Central Railway, establishing a new milestone. This achievement signifies a new revolution in high-speed rail in India.
Railway officials stated that this record was achieved under both loaded and empty conditions. The second 'rake' (version-two, 16 coaches) of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train was tested by the testing directorate team of the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Lucknow, starting from November 2.
Testing the Record Speed
A senior railway official informed that last week the train was tested with a load of 908 tons and achieved a speed of 180 kmph. Subsequently, on Monday, the speed trial on an empty rake of 800 tons was also successful. During this, the train's stability, safety, and technical standards were scientifically tested.
Saurabh Jain, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, stated that a total distance of 100 kilometers was covered on the Rohalkhurd–Indragarh–Kota section. In this trial, the train successfully completed two other technical tests along with achieving maximum speed.

Mission Raftaar and Make in India
According to railway officials, this achievement is a historic step towards the 'Mission Raftaar' and 'Make in India' campaigns. During the trial, technical experts from Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, Medha Servo Drives Limited, and Faiveley India Private Limited were present. This test was not only an evaluation of speed but also of the train's safety, stability, and technical reliability.
This ensured that the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is fully prepared for the high-speed railway network. The Vande Bharat Sleeper train has been developed keeping in mind high speed and comfortable travel. Its key features include:
- A second-generation train with 16 coaches.
- Aerodynamic design for high-speed operation.
- Modern safety and braking systems.
- Sleeper and toilet facilities for maximum passenger comfort.
This train not only conforms to international standards but also demonstrates Indian Railways' technological self-reliance and India's strength in global competition.
